Jacksonville special forces association7/29/2023 Lieutenant Colonel West was next assigned as a student in August 1986 to the Naval War College where he earned his masters in National Security and Policy. During his tenure, HMA-269 was the recipient of the CNO Safety Award and was selected as the Marine Corps Helicopter Squadron of the Year. Then Major West was transferred in 1983 to Marine Aircraft Group 29 at MCAS New River, serving as the Executive Officer and then as the Commanding Officer of HMA-269. In 1980, he attended Air Force Command and Staff College, earned his MBA from Auburn, and then reported to Headquarters Marine Corps to serve as the AH/UH/OV/Helo weapons officer. He was the Detachment Officer In Charge with HMM-261 on a second LF6F deployment to the Mediterranean, as well as a North Atlantic deployment with NATO forces for Operations Northern Wedding/Bold Guard. He was later assigned to Amphibious Warfare School and, after graduation, returned to HMA-269, where he served as the Operations Officer and Aircraft Maintenance Officer. Then Captain West was assigned to HMA-269 at MCAS New River in Jacksonville, NC where he served as Logistics Officer, completed a Landing Force Sixth Fleet deployment in the Mediterranean, and upon return to to HMA-269, he served as the Operations Officer, as the Detachment OIC for Rum Punch 75 aboard a British LPH, the HMS Hermes and completed his bachelor’s degree at the University of NC (W). After qualifying as a Bombardier Navigator in the A6A Intruder, he was assigned to VMA(AW)-225 in the Republic of Vietnam.Ĭompleting his combat tour in December 1970, he returned to the Naval Air Training Command and received his wings as a naval aviator in February 1971. Designated a Naval Flight Officer in 1969, he was assigned to VMAT(AW)-202 and VMA(AW)-224 at MCAS Cherry Point, NC. He was commissioned a 2ndLT in Jan 1968, completed The Basic School, and was assigned to the Naval Air Training Command in Pensacola, FL. ![]() Randy enlisted in the Marine Corps in Oct 1966, completed recruit training at MCRD, Parris Island, and achieved the enlisted rank of sergeant. Randy was a member of the White House Commission on Remembrance. In addition, he serves on the Board of the Museum of Americans in Wartime, and the Oakview National Bank in Marshall, VA. where he serves as a consultant and adviser to industry, DoD and Congress, on matters of National Security and Policy. These challenges may include receiving assistance in building wheel chair ramps, finding a handicapped accessible vehicle, doing needed repairs in the home, identifying VA resources, VA benefits applications, finding professional counseling, etc.įour: To provide an annual scholarship to help a son or daughter of a wounded vet attend college or pursue a trade school education. Three: To provide an atmosphere for sharing and encouraging that may assist in opening doors to help wounded veterans in identifying resources to navigate other challenging issues with which they may be faced.
